The survey, first to be done face to face since the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic among 1,500 respondents, found that 48 percent of families rated themselves as poor, 36 percent felt Borderline Poor, and 16 percent felt Not Poor.
“Self-Rated Poverty (SRP) could not be implemented in the SWS mobile phone surveys earlier this year since it requires showing the survey respondents a card with the words MAHIRAP and HINDI MAHIRAP, separated by a LINE, written on it,” SWS said.
SWS said that in December 2019, the last time that the SRP was implemented, there were 54 percent that felt Poor, 23 percent that felt Borderline Poor, and 23 percent that felt Not Poor. From December 2019 to November 2020, the borderline-poor grew by 13 points, consisting of six-points that climbed up from below, and 7 points that fell down from above.
