SWS: 49% of Filipinos feel poor, 33% borderline poor

The nationwide survey done face-to-face for the first time among 1,500 respondents from November 21-to 25 found that 91 percent are starting 2021 with renewed hope rather than gripping fear.
SWS said, however, that this is five points down from the 96 percent in 2018 and the lowest since the 89 percent in 2009.
Seven percent will enter the New Year with fear. This is 3 points up from the four percent in 2019.
SWS shared that expectations for the New Year started at 87 percent when it first asked the question at the end of 2000. It was in the 90s at the end of 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010 to 2020. And i was in the 80s at the end of 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, and 2009.
The nationwide survey done face-to-face for the first time among 1,500 respondents from November 21-to 25 found that 62 percent said their quality-of-life got worse (“Losers”), 24 percent said it remains the same (“Unchanged”), and 14 said it got better (“Gainers”), compared to a year ago.
With a Net Gainers score of -48 (percentage of Gainers minus percentage of Losers), SWS classified it as extremely low (–49 to –40).
This latest score according to the SWS, is 28 points up from the catastrophic -76 in September 2020, softening SWS’s worst survey trend that started during the COVID-19 crisis when Net Gainers fell to catastrophic levels of -78 in May 2020 and -72 in July 2020.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 21) A poll conducted by the Social Weather Stations showed 62% of Filipinos believe their quality of life worsened since the pandemic started. The survey, conducted from November 21-25, was the first face-to-face interviews since the start of the crisis.
In its report published on Monday, the SWS said the net gainers score taken from the survey (meaning the percent of gainers minus the percent of losers) was at -48, classified by the SWS as extremely low.
However, it added, The November 2020 Net Gainer score is up by 28 points from the catastrophic -76 in September 2020, softening SWS s worst survey trend that started during the Covid-19 crisis when Net Gainers fell to catastrophic levels of -78 in May 2020 and -72 in July 2020.
