astonishing chapter in the very very long story that is, you know, the fight for gender equality, and inclusion, the sort of legal battle to be able to address sexual assault and harassment. and to lay claim to, you know, protection from the state, for women and victims of harassment and assault, i don t think it s you know, the thing that s made clear to me about this verdict in this case is the length of time that this has been playing out, both in a very recent context, you know, going back to before the 2016 election, when, in fact, two of the corroborating witnesses for e. jean carroll told their stories of having been assaulted by trump, and there was the access hollywood tape, and none of those things impeded his election in 2016, but then the fury about that election led to a women s march and a period of real protest and fury, and very gendered terms that then brought
after an 18-month investigation, the house january 6th committee releasing the final report. the 800 plus page document lays out a damming case against donald trump including his efforts to overturn the 2020 election led to the attack on the u.s. capitol and suggesting trump should be barred from ever holding public office again.chn more. reporter: nearly two years after the january 6th attack on the capitol, the committee tasked with investigating all aspects of that attack has released its report. it comes two days after the committee expected to release it all because of typographical errors and printing issues. it has a comprehensive flairtive of what happened will have, during, after january 6th. it lays out 11 specific recommendations from the
election led to the attack on the capitol and he should be barred from holding office again, those are the conclusions and recommendations in the january 6th committee s final and full report more than 800 pages released last night. cnn s paula reid joins us now, she s been going through it. we learned a lot prior to the release of this report, but there were some new conclusions and revelations in here. i was really surprised, jim, by how much news there was in this report, especially after the hearings this summer, the executive summary earlier this week and our own reporting. as you noted, the committee has had bold conclusion and then lays out the evidence to support it, that conclusion is that the central cause of january 6th was one man, former president donald trump, who many others followed. they conclude none of the events of january 6 would have happened without him. and it s interesting because the report takes a few steps back, they are not just focused on the violence on
major national security implications. he is also a candidate who is tied to an ongoing domestic violence extremist threat in america whose lies and conspiracies about the 2020 election led to the worst attack on the united states capitol in centuries. the targets of trump s smears and verbal attacks can become targets for actual violence. the attack on paul pelosi, the husband of speaker nancy pelosi, was carried out by an adherent of conspiracy theories involving crazy things, but also racist things. back in 2020, trump s own fbi director told congress under oath that white supremacists make up the biggest domestic terror threat. what i can tell you is that within the domestic terrorism bucket category as a whole, racially motivated violent extremism is i think the biggest bucket within that larger group, and within the racially motivated violent extremist
an electorate on the republican side that is thirsty for that. what happens in 2020 was earth shattering in georgia. yeah. this is not really been about warnock and walker. this is about who gets to make the choice. and republicans, white people generally speaking, in georgia had always been able to call the shots. and that election led by black voters, they changed that dynamic. and that shocked everyone. and so this is just, you know, a kind of tribal entrenchment. they don t really care very much about what walker is being accused of. they don t care how good warnock is. they care about whether or not they will be able to prove that they still get to call the shots. what do you i mean you have written about this earlier this year in september.
