The U.S. Secret Service says it blocked a Muslim mayor from attending a White House celebration with President Joe Biden to belatedly mark the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
New Jersey will observe Muslim Heritage Month each January beginning in 2024 after Gov. Phil Murphy signed a joint resolution on Saturday to celebrate Eid al-Fitr and the end of Ramadan. Illinois, Washington and Utah are among the states with similar recognition for Muslim-Americans, though Pennsylvania lawmakers and U.S. Sen. Cory Booker have also introduced measures to enact the observance in recent months.
