(Mainichi/Norikazu Chiba) TOKYO Antibodies in coronavirus patients last for at least three to six months after the onset of symptoms, according to the findings of a nationwide study conducted by a research team headed by a professor at the University of Tokyo s Institute of Medical Science. The discovery in patients of neutralizing antibodies, which defend cells from infections, also led the team to say the body can to some extent defend itself from reinfection. The findings were announced in the online edition of British medical journal EClinicalMedicine.
