republican party, a real shift. party used to have in the bush era security moms. now there s such a libertarian strain in the party. i think that s really influencing the party ahead of 2014. i think the rand paul wing is going to assert itself, have more of a role to play. it s not just going to be a hawk party, a party for men and their views on national security. you know, i want to get your thoughts on something. politicians often blame the media for fractious, divisive fighting, but the media is also just reporting on what people say, and people can say very crazy things. like the incoming counselor to president obama, john podesta, he compared house republicans to followers of jim jones. jim jones murdered then-representative leo ryan before committing mass suicide in 1978. he since apologized, but we don t make this stuff up on purpose. right. i think john podesta, he does a lot of things for the president, but he also has some critical elements in the sense that podesta he
so hard to categorize every cycle political strategists come up with a catchy label to try to explain who exactly these people are. all three boys happen to play soccer so that makes you in the eyes of political strategists a soccer mom. out of touch is a phrase soccer moms often use to describe this. soccer moms. we have security moms. security moms. waitress moms, whatever they are. people called waitress. walmart moms. they are the demographic that is all coveted this year. i ve worked on the walmart moms research project. joining me now is lynn babrick, author of the gamble. great to have you at the table. good to be here. you ve been doing research on voters who are undecided and tracking them. quite a bit database of them over the course of the election. what do we get right and wrong about who these voters are? well, we have about 1600 of them in our panel so we can take a pretty close look at them and

in 1996 when i worked for clinton we created the soccer mom phenom nom. mothers who focus on raising their children and liked clinton s value. 2004 security moms who wanted tougher terrorist activity. and they are back. the world is seeing incredeble nii vet. and i preach to a standard that i want to be the rest of the world will follow suit. we are seeing that. brian: look at this poll. rasmussen voters are u.s.y aralations with the islamic world worse or been are the. most islamic polls say the same. once thought george bush was the problem. and polling show no difference.
paid in and i found older americans, senior americans are those among the most concerns about deficits, debt and future of the country and are gravely concerned about the direction of the country and want to get it going in the right direction. greta: i think one other strategy and this is a recent one we hear a lot from the obama campaign about this war on women. i think they looked at the polls and saw the gender gap between the two candidates and i think that they are going for broke on this. you know, trying to because they know that sense 1980 more women have voted in the elections than men. there is this giant current undergap. reading your op ed piece i was curious you you said that president bush in 2004 narrowed the gender gap that democrats always had the higher number on that. how did he narrow that gender gap in 2004? well, by making an appeal to what were then called security
