The first business at the National Education Union (NEU) conference, 3-6 April, was to announce that an online consultation, with a recommendation to reject, had 98% rejecting the government's offer, with a 66% turn out. Before conference NEU members who are teachers in English schools were already due to strike on 27 April and 2 May. At conference, it was agreed that the union will use the period of GCSE and A level exams from 15 May to begin a re-ballot of those members, to run until the end of July. It also agreed to timetable a three-day strike in late June or early July.
