During the summer, as students are away from the school building, a summer slide occurs for some.
Summer slide is the term for when students forget some course material or information they need for the next grade level during the summer because of being away from the school atmosphere for a period of time.
Officials with the Amarillo Independent School District are attempting to combat summer slide, as well as the COVID-19 educational gap still prevalent as the pandemic wanes, with a program aimed at pre-K to first-grade students.
Season two of the district’s award winning program “The Secret Classroom” premiered recently on KFDA-NewsChannel 10 Too, online at www.newschannel10.com or at www.amaisd.org/sc. A rerun of the first episode of season two is scheduled to air at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with new episodes premiering at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays.
