ohio voters have voted to guarantee abortion rights. supreme court overturned roe versus wade last year. voters in seven states, including republican states like kansas, kentucky, in montana, voted to protect abortion rights. the vote tonight nullifies the states six-week abortion ban passed by republicans in the legislature which is being now challenged in court. joining us now, we think, is steve kornacki, the national political correspondent for nbc news and msnbc. or perhaps not. the control room of thought we had steve kornacki, and we thought he was going to be wandering into this studio, but he may be stuck between studios somewhere on this floor. we re going to find. him were going to get him back. instead, joining us now is shan, round and craddock senator from ohio, senator brown what is your reaction to this major news tonight that the voters of ohio have delivered? not surprised and thrilled of course, lawrence i m gonna hijack your show just for a moment and do
favor of where gavin newsom wanted to be. track down to one more. i think this is important. second biggest county in the state. san diego county. obviously home of san diego. the no vote 60.6%. yes vote 39.4%. why does this matter? again, inside this county was a republican-won district back in 2020. what did joe biden do back in 2020? pretty much matching it up. if you match up in a state that democrats won by 30 points one year ago, you re dead. they re matching up or doing worse almost across the board in all of the major blue most populous areas. that right now is why gavin newsom is up by 2.77 million votes. so when i asked phil before the show, what does california look like, he goes it looks like an eye, whatever. what it looks like is basically this is what was blue during 2020 is blue. what was red during 2020 is red. look at the counties joe biden won. the counties joe biden won in 2020. every single one of them except for one is still blue. and if you want to dig in on
ballots that qualify under this statute. so there were only be 3,600 ballots you could add into the overall total. miami dade, the biggest county, has yet to report in, but broward county has and that s the second biggest county. we re probably only talking somewhere in the range of 5,000 to 5,500 ballots total that you could add in to the mix. that s probably not enough for bill nelson and that would only be if the judge said you can put all of these back into the overall vote totals. those are the two big takeaways now. the big question is will the judge say yes, we can bring these ballots back into the counting process. he did seem skeptical when answering questions from the democratic lawyers there that the statute is pretty clear on how this all handles. they also spoke to county election supervisor here in leon county who said they re very lenient with their standards. they do everything they possibly
this is a conversation about florida s signature match law. the nelson campaign challenging the way this law is interpreted. the first big thing i d point out is that the judge specifically asked one of the witnesses testifying from the secretary of state s office if any of these ballots were tossed out or any were voters attempting to vote fraudulently. she said there was no reason to believe that. that s the first point. that is probably good for the nelson campaign. on the bad side for the nelson campaign, there s been a question about how many of these ballots are available to be counted in the overall total. they need a significant number of them. i m going to show you an exhibit brought into the court here. you can t see this. this is a spreadsheet of all 67 counties. they ve gone through and called every county to ask how many of these ballots have been tossed out because of the signature match and they ve talked to 46 of the counties. so far there s only 3,600
not only are there votes yet to be counted in the florida senate race between republican governor rick scott and democratic senator bill nelson, just a short time ago, they found bags of early mail-in votes that had somehow gotten lost, which only adds to the county s infamous election reputation, starting with gore v. bush in 2000, where after a razor thin finish of the presidential race reports started coming out of so-called dimples and hanging chads. paper ballots that were not punched all the way through and therefore not counted. the gore campaign asked for a recount in four florida counties including broward county. 36 days and 45 lawsuits later, the supreme court stopped the recount and bush won the election. then in 2004, the presidential election between george w. bush and john carey, broward county elections supervisor brenda snipes who is currently embroiled in the nelson scott senate controversy, accused the postal service of losing 60,000
