Updated: 7:20 PM EST Feb 28, 2021 Authorities are searching for a man who reportedly fled into the woods with a rifle near a Salem Walmart, according to the Salem Police Department.Salem police say officers responded at about 10:50 a.m. Sunday to the rear of the Walmart at 450 Highland Avenue to investigate the report.When they arrived at the scene, officers spoke to a witness who told them that the windows of a backhoe loader in the rear parking lot had its windows shattered by a projectile.Lynn and Peabody police, along with members of the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team, assisted Salem police in their search and investigation.According to Salem police, evidence found at the scene suggests that the backhoe s windows were likely shattered by BBs shot from an air rifle.Police say there were no identified threats made to people during or after the incident, but the suspect has not been found at this time.
