Town centre art project off to a flyer with kārearea falcon mural

Kārearea are New Zealand’s only native falcon, and the most threatened bird of prey with fewer than 8000 birds remaining. Up to three quarters die in their first year due to human activities. The trust worked to increase the Marlborough population with breeding and rehabilitation work at the Brancott Vineyard aviary, and advocacy work through education and research programmes. Having just finished two other falcon murals in Palmerston North, SwiftMantis said he was really moved by his visit to the aviary, and surprised such important work was done by a charity. “It’s pretty important work.” Scott Hammond/Stuff
