Its frightening and bizarre in several ways. But heres what happened, the victim early this morning told police he was in this parking lot on baldwin avenue in the cherry neighborhood when two suspects, a man and a woman came up, threatened him with a gun, and forced him to get into another car and drove him a long way to get cash. The investigation began early this morning with a call from the papa johns on Fourth Street saying they hadnt heard from one of their delivery drivers. A 61yearold man. Fearing the worst, Police Called in homicide detectives and they found his car a little while later abandoned here on baldwin street just several blocks from the papa johns store. The driver was missing. Two hours later, about 4 30 this morning, police in arch dale, 80 miles up 85, called to say a driver walked into their department off the interstate and told him hed been kidnapped from charlotte over night. There, the sheriff says the suspect shot one person in the parking lot before going into the facility and shooting 15 people. The gunman was an employee. The sheriff addressed how officers ended the violence. Gunfire was exchanged between Law Enforcement and the shooter. And Law Enforcement shot and killed. Again, the shooter is among the dead. The Sheriffs Office has not identified him. They say he used an Assault Rifle in the attacks and also had a pistol on him. Well keep you updated as new details come in tonight. Reporter this is one of many areas across town where heavy winds knocked down massive trees. Check out the root of that tree. Road. This is edge hill drive. We watched as crews wrapped up trying to clear this tree. Minutes. But they had been here for about four hours. We talked to homeowners and neighbors across charlotte. A tree fell on a condo in the will more area. It caused so much damage inside, that structure has been deemed unsafe. We saw crews working to clear a tree that fell on a vintage seen Power Outages, two gas leeks, and trees down within a three block radius. A nearby homeowner told us the impact knocked down one of the trees in her yard and damaged her fence and she described the moment it happened. He started barking. We heard a loud rustling. Its not known if the victim was a student but she told police she exercised in the area all the time. You dont expect a man to run behind you at 2 00 in the afternoon when youre running down the street. The suspect tonight is described as a tall black man about 63 wearing a black jacket and a panthers cap. The Surveillance Video from the Family Trust Federal Credit Union shows the suspect and the victim walking in the business a few moments apart. Rock hill police told me earlier today theyll have to go to court and get a subpoena to get that Surveillance Video. I talked to family trust this afternoon. They told me theyre not going to do that.
