A 45-year-old Cole Camp man is facing a felony charge after he allegedly led law-enforcement officers on a high-speed pursuit through part of Sedalia and then south into Benton County on Sunday, April 11.
A report from a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper says he observed a vehicle traveling 58 miles per hour in a 35 miles-per-hour zone. The vehicle sped away from an attempted stop, and eventually traveled up to 80 miles per hour on Route U. The vehicle’s tires were deflated by spike strips once in Benton County. The vehicle came to a stop, and Scott Wayne Mathis was arrested.
According to court documents, Mathis is charged with a Class E Felony for Resisting Arrest for a Felony and a driving-related misdemeanor. Bond is set at $25,000 cash or surety.

Early Thursday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle due to the registered owner having an active warrant for their arrest. Upon contact with the occupants of the vehicle, the driver was identified to Dispatch and discovered to have two active Cooper County warrants for Failure to Appear on traffic violations; Driving While Suspended and Speeding. Scott Wayne Mathis, 45, of Cole Camp, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. At the jail, Mathis was discovered to have concealed contraband on his person, which he took into the facility. Mathis was placed on a 24 hour hold pending state charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Introducing Contraband into a Jail Facility. Mathis also brought an $800 cash or surety bond on the Cooper County warrants.
