Less than three months after making their debut, MSK are NXT Tag Team Champions.
At NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one tonight, MSK (Wes Lee & Nash Carter) defeated The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) and Legado Del Fantasma (Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde) in a triple threat match to win the NXT Tag Team titles. Lee pinned Gibson after MSK hit a double-team corkscrew blockbuster with Lee jumping from the second rope.
The NXT Tag Team titles were declared vacant last month after Danny Burch suffered a separated shoulder. Before having to relinquish the titles, Burch & Oney Lorcan had been the NXT Tag Team Champions since October of last year.
MSK s Wes Lee suffered a legitimate broken hand at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day last month.
On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Lee suffered a broken hand on one of his dives during the match where MSK (Lee & Nash Carter) defeated The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) in the men s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic finals at TakeOver: Vengeance Day.
MSK were set to challenge for Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch s NXT Tag Team titles on NXT this Wednesday, but that match won t be taking place on the episode due to Lee s injury. There was a backstage segment on last week s NXT where The Grizzled Young Veterans attacked MSK. Gibson then cut a promo later in the show saying that Lee suffered a broken hand when The Grizzled Young Veterans used a steel chair during the attack. Drake claimed that The Grizzled Young Veterans had been given a hefty fine for attacking MSK.
The quarterfinals of the men s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will kick off on NXT next week.
WWE has announced that the next round of the men s Dusty Classic will begin with MSK vs. Drake Maverick & Killian Dain and The Grizzled Young Veterans vs. Kushida & Leon Ruff taking place on NXT next Wednesday. Kushida & Ruff advanced in the tournament by defeating NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano & Austin Theory in a first round match on NXT tonight.
MSK and The Grizzled Young Veterans both won first round matches on last week s NXT, while Maverick & Dain advanced by winning a first round match on last Friday s 205 Live. MSK made their debut by defeating Isaiah Swerve Scott & Jake Atlas, The Grizzled Young Veterans defeated Ever-Rise, and Maverick & Dain defeated Curt Stallion & August Grey.
The first round of the tournament will continue with Dain & Maverick vs. Stallion & Grey and The Bollywood Boyz vs. Legado Del Fantasma airing on 205 Live this week.
Candice LeRae vs. Shotzi Blackheart
Quick start to Shotzi, who overwhelms Candice and hits a cross body off the top before working a rolling armbar style move. They end up jockeying for position on the mat with Shotzi gaining the first real upper hand. When Candice is sent outside, Indi Hartwell gets in Shotzi’s face, allowing Candice to escape. She then hits a baseball slide and springboard splash heading into break. Candice holds serve throughout the break and Shotzi starts to rally with a barrage of kicks and a rope-hung senton for two. A DDT on the apron allows Shotzi to then take out both Candice and Indi with a tope suicida. Inside, Shotzi is knocked into the turnbuckle and Candice gets two on a short superkick. Shotzi blocks the quebrada but gets put in the Gargano Escape. Shotzi finds a way out with some unique offense. She hits a corner knee and ads a second DDT. Indi gets on the apron as Shotzi climbs, so she boots her off. It opens the door for Candice to climb up and w
