from hail damage. reporter: how long have you lived here, jarld. i ve lived in this edition three years. reporter: we know this city in particular has had a history of violent tornado. 19 9 a tornado came through this town. when you see something like this, does it give you perspective on certain things? may 3rd of 99 is when you re i m sure going back to. the ef5. we were affected but it. the center missed our house by three quarters of a mile decided to take a left-hand turn. we saw the devastation from it. i was hoping i would never personally have to be in this position but fortunately we re here. serve fine in your family. everybody is okay. we did lose three animals. reporter: thanks for taking time to talk to us. a lot of folks who go through situations like this have a hard time coping with what s happened
situated all over that area and we re, you know, working on getting the latest numbers from first responders and the governor s office and the medical examiner s office. but another concern was that, you know some cell towers are down. the cell network is clogged up. they re asking folks to text message their loved ones to verify that they are in fact safe. but first responders are having difficulty communicating over the phone and also getting to victims at least initially that was the case. that s scott hiens of kfor tv. you have been doing stellar jobs tonight. my pressure. . right on the he bailey where it turns down south. that s where it is right there.

yourself out then? we were able to slide the it s got a chain that locks the door closed you ve got to lock it from the inside. when the tornado hit it pushed it so the that the chain was jammed. reporter: jar rolled when you came out of your shelter and you saw all of this, what s going through your mind? where to begin. it s like the beginning of the end. my wife and i we ve worked hard for everything we have. we just now paid off of house. we were debt free. had no house peemt. we were supposed to go tomorrow to sign papers on land to build a new house and that house was collateral for the land purchase. so now we re in a position of which direction do we go. reporter: do you have a place to stay tonight? my daughter is flying back in from florida right now. that s her black car on the top of the pile. she just had fixed last week
we are back with nbc s continue kochl of the aftermath of the oklahoma tornado. what you re looking at right now is the before image of a residential neighborhood in moore, oklahoma. you see row after row of well built brick houses, houses that today are no longer there. the weather channel channel s mike bettes joined us this evening from roughly that same neighborhood you re looking at now to show us the after paying chur in a community that now looking very different. reporter: well it s one of those scenes that it s devastating right now. you look at what s going on here in moore and you look behind us here and this town has just been mowed down. it is one of those scenes that we don t see all that often. maybe you see this in joplin, missouri two years ago and we know what the scene was there. this is a neighborhood that has
