Disabled Man Killed in Scott Fire A disabled 18-year-old is dead after a fire in the Ile Des Cannes Apartments. According to the Scott Fire Department, the call from Scottsdale Street came in just before 1 a.m. Sunday. When firefighters arrived, they found a quadruplex apartment engulfed in flames. According to Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier, neighbors told firefighters that the victim was still inside the unit. Firefighters went inside and discovered the victim s body in a bedroom. Sonnier said the victim died of smoke inhalation. Sonnier says the fire started in the victim s downstairs unit. The exact cause remains under investigation. The unit suffered major damage. The unit directly above sustained moderate damage. The other two units sustained minor damage. Nobody else was injured.

Scott homes damaged in explosion caused by electrical fire: SFD

An electrical fire caused an explosion, destroyed one home and damaged another, the Scott Fire Department said.  Firefighters arrived at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home in the 100 block of Llyod Road in Scott. The home was completely engulfed and high winds were causing the flames to spread to a nearby home, Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier said in a release.  One person in the home was able to escape without injury, but a pet cat was unable to escape and died in the fire, Sonnier said. After knocking on the door to the neighboring home where a person who is hearing impaired lives, a neighbor used a large rock to enter the house and safely evacuate the resident.

In a press release, Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier says his crew answered the call to find the home to engulfed in flames, and with the high winds, the fire spread to a neighboring home. Firefighters from Duson, Judice, and Lafayette were needed to join in as they not only had to fight the engulfed home but also contain the fire at the neighboring home where the fire had spread to that person s attic.
