An electrical fire caused an explosion, destroyed one home and damaged another, the Scott Fire Department said.
Firefighters arrived at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home in the 100 block of Llyod Road in Scott. The home was completely engulfed and high winds were causing the flames to spread to a nearby home, Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier said in a release.
One person in the home was able to escape without injury, but a pet cat was unable to escape and died in the fire, Sonnier said. After knocking on the door to the neighboring home where a person who is hearing impaired lives, a neighbor used a large rock to enter the house and safely evacuate the resident.
