Be able to defuse that. Reporter San Jose Police chief eddie garcia explaining the use of deadly force overnight at this downtown Affordable Housing complex. I heard about four they say gunshots. I thought they were like firecrackers. Reporter San Jose Police were called here by security guards who reported a disturbance from a third floor apartment. When they arrived officers observed flames and smoke coming from underneath the front door. Reporter this picture shows burn marks on the bottom of the door. Officers forced their way in and were confronted by two men. One was subdued. The other man was armed with an ax. A taser was deployed. However, it had no effect on the suspect. Reporter the chief says the man dropped the ax but quickly rearmed himself with it. And it was not until he began to threaten the officers with the ax and began to advance on the officers that the officer was given no other choice than to discharge his firearm in defense of his life. Traffic expected to be very busy. Right now we are looking at the san mateo bridge and those tail lights making their way in the westbound direction out of hayward heading into foster city, a 14 minute ride, no major delays to tell you about if youre making your way along 101, this is right near 380 so just north of sfo, you can see traffic nice and light, you can also count the cars out on the freeway there, speeds moving right at the limit. We are seeing a few slowdowns approaching the richmond, san rafael bridge. No reports of any accidents.
