ERVING A former Selectboard member and a political newcomer are vying for a Selectboard seat in Monday’s town election.
Polls will be open at Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The contested Selectboard seat is for a one-year term, finishing the term of Pete Sanders, who resigned from the board in January.
Also on the ballot, current Selectboard Chair Jacob Smith is running unopposed for another three-year term.
The two candidates for the one-year term are Scott Bastarache, who previously served on the Selectboard and the Erving School Committee, and Janice Vega-Liros, who has not been in an elected position before. This is the only contested race on the ballot.
Erving will seek to fill Selectboard seat in May’s annual election

ERVING With the resignation of Peter Sanders from the Selectboard, Erving will seek to fill his seat during the annual town election, planned for the first week of May.
Sanders cited unexpected personal matters for the reason behind his resignation, but declined to comment further when reached by phone. He said he will be staying in his double position as the town Water Department superintendent and the Wastewater Department chief operator.
A special election will not be held to fill the position. Town Administrator Bryan Smith said the Selectboard thought a special election would be too close to the annual town election in May, which could confuse voters and depress turnout for one or the other.
