Former foreign editor of The Times praised for switching from No to Yes

Would independence hit the Scottish economy harder than Brexit?

No 10 claims Boris Johnson is voice of Scots who rejected independence in 2014

Updated Boris Johnson has repeatedly insisted that Scots don t want a new vote on independence, despite 20 polls in a row putting Yes in the lead BORIS Johnson is the “voice of the majority of the Scottish people” who rejected independence, Downing Street has claimed. The comments came amid turmoil in the No 10 Union unit, with the group s only Scot, former Ochil and South Perthshire MP Luke Graham, ousted from his leadership role after a brutal dispute over indyref2. The Prime Minister’s official spokesman confirmed Graham has “left his No 10 position” just two days after Johnson’s press secretary Allegra Stratton said he was a “very valued member of staff”.

Online political bloodletting is killing our case for Scottish independence

EVEN the most cursory glance at Twitter right now is enough to make any Scot desirous of independence shudder. I’m not talking about attacks from the Unionist cabal, if only it were that simple. Any pile on and criticism from such quarters are par for the political course, and anyway such Unionist arguments against Scottish independence have an increasingly hollow ring to them right now and they know it. No, the Unionist fraternity are not those that worry me most at the moment though there should never be room for complacency, no matter how upbeat the latest opinion polls make those among us feel that are itching to bring on another independence referendum.

The Union Unit has shown itself to be useless – but beware its dirty tricks

The Union Unit now enters its fifth iteration in just 16th months. In October 2019, it was announced that “to strengthen the Union and Scotland’s place in the UK, the Government has established a Union Unit within Downing Street. The unit is tasked with reviewing the impact of all policy proposals on the Union, ensuring all nations and regions are taken into consideration”. Just nine months later we heard “a new Cabinet group has been set up to promote Boris Johnson’s agenda and devise policies that will enhance the UK Government’s standing in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland”.
