in memphis, slamone, what s happening a continued fall-out from this incident from the horrific beating after the video what public the sheriff here in the shelby county put out a statement learned two of his deputies were on scene that night and as a result of that because of this video becoming public, he s placed those deputies on leave, so it s two sheriffs deputies that are now on leave, and of course, you know, we re learning more between about this scorpion unit, the team that these officers were part of, the family calling for them to be disbanded well the mayor and police department here saying that that unit for right now is not operating in this city, they have sort of suspended their operations while they continue their investigation. but they re not outright going to say at this point that they re going to disband this unit, they re blaming the problems on these officers and not the unit, the other thing throughout this and of course, watching this video, laura

[ chanting ] this is the demand of protesters across the united states after the city of memphis releases the harrowing video of a fatal police beating. at the center of it all is this man, 29-year-old tyre nichols. we walk you through the clips of what he endured and where reform needs to begin. and a deadly shooting near jerusalem in a synagogue. across the united states we re seeing anger, we re hearing demands for change, but we re not witnessing the violent demonstrations many feared would come after the public saw those images. memphis officials released over an hour of video that started with traffic stop involving tyre nichols on january 7th. take a look. now there is already a lot of anger toward police over the incident with loud calls for reform. these protesters in memphis, for example, blocked a major bridge for a time, but n
today. horrifying, incomprehensible, inhumane, just some of the words used to describe videos of the brutal beating of tyre nichols at the hands of memphis police. the shocking images were released last night, and we want to warn you, some of what you re about to see is extremely graphic. i didn t do anything! hey, i didn t body cam video of the traffic stop shows officers approaching with their firearms, yanking nichols out of the car. he breaks free from the officers and runs towards his parents home. a struggle ensues after a chase, police then using pepper spray, batons, their fists, and feet to beatnik cols. at one point, he cries out for his mother. mom! mom! mom! video from a pole camera showing the full extent. you see nichols there, who is unarmed, kicked in the face, struck at least nine times in just several minutes, bloodied, propped up onto a squad car. officers are then seen just standing around, not providing nichols with any potentially lifesaving a
hi, everyone. thanks so much for joining me in washington, d.c. i m jessica dean in for fredricka whitfield today. a city and nation in shock. hours after memphis police released videos of the brutal killing of tyre nichols. the full videos released last night show five former memphis police officers repeatedly beating the 29-year-old. and i want to warn you. what we re about to show you is extremely graphic. the videos document nichols being pulled over earlier this month for alleged reckless driving. place are seen yanking him from the car, chasing, kicking him, using pepper spray and batons. nichols, who is unarmed, crying for miss his mother at one poin. he died from his injuries three days later in the hospital. those videos are sparking largely peaceful protests across the country overnight and into today. earlier this week the five officers were charged with second-degree murder and now after this video has come out, two officers from a different department who were al
