SUNY Potsdam psychology professor to present tonight at Clarkson University Science Café

Wednesday, April 7, 2021 - 9:01 am POTSDAM Jim Fryer, SUNY Potsdam professor of psychology, will present The “What” and “Why” of Goal Pursuit at the next Clarkson University Science Café on Wednesday, April 7 at 7:15 pm. Our motivated behavior is focused through goals in any given situation, what do we want to happen? We set goals in school, at work, in our relationships and everywhere else. However, understanding our goals is not just about the intended outcome. How well we do and how we feel about our progress can also be influenced by the reasons behind those goals These “goal complexes” include what we are trying to do and why we are trying to do it. Professor Jim Fryer (psychology, SUNY Potsdam) will discuss research on personal goals and the ways multiple aspects of these goals can contribute to our performance and well-being.

Pandemic anxiety to be discussed at UNMC on March 30

Nebraska City News-Press Ali DeLizza, PhD, a clinical psychologist and director of wellness programming at UNMC, and Steven Wengel, MD, vice-chancellor for wellness at UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, will discuss how to deal with anxiety during and after the COVID-19 pandemic during the March 30 Science Cafe.   The pair will discuss the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on mental health in America. In addition, Drs. DeLizza and Wengel will discuss practical ways to manage anxiety and stress caused not only by the pandemic, but also the uncertainty that accompanies the gradual reopening of the country.   To ensure social distancing, the Science Café will be offered via Facebook Live and begin at 10 a.m.: https://www.facebook.com/ScienceCafeNE/.
