Six UCLA arts projects receive Getty Foundation grants

Avishay Artsy | January 27, 2021 Six arts projects at UCLA have received grants from the Getty Foundation to research and plan exhibitions for the third iteration of “Pacific Standard Time,” which when it opens in 2024 will explore the intersections between the visual arts and science.  The six grants, which were announced today, total $745,000 and were awarded to the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture, Art | Sci Center, Fowler Museum, Hammer Museum, the Film and Television Archive, which is a division of UCLA Library, and the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies. The Getty Foundation has provided $5.38 million to 45 arts institutions across Southern California.

Getty grants fund science-themed 2024 'Pacific Standard Time'

Indigenous futurism. Narrative medicine. Cyberpunk and digital dystopias. Soil contamination. Environmentally sustainable mega-cities. These and other topics will be explored in “Pacific Standard Time: Art x Science x L.A.” in 2024. The Getty Foundation announced Wednesday the 45 Southern California cultural and educational institutions that will collectively receive more than $5 million in exhibition research grants. “Pacific Standard Time: Art x Science x L.A.” will include dozens of concurrent exhibitions as well as performances, publications and other programming, all exploring the intersection of art and science. The funding comes at a critical time when most of these cultural institutions have been closed for 10 months, resulting in unprecedented financial challenges.
