Osceola County Public Schools is recruiting teachers from outside the U.S to fill classrooms for the 2022-2023 school year. Board members say the district - like others across the state - ended the year with significantly more openings than previous summers.
In a special meeting on Tuesday night, the Galax School Board voted unanimously to wait on beginning in-person classes again, but will let student athletes take part in the winter season as long as CDC and state guidelines are followed. Galax schools will remain virtual until at least Jan. 15, and COVID-19 case numbers will be reviewed at the regular Jan. 12 board meeting before making any further decisions. If the numbers have dropped to an acceptable level, schools will restart in-person classes on Jan. 19. “We’re still in the red zone” of areas with the highest number of coronavirus compared to population, noted Schools Superintendent Susan Tilley, who recommended the measures.
