giuliani has said, he s said a lot of things that have made people scratch their heads, but the one thing that s reasonable is the president does need to have time to prepare for this summit with north korea on june 12th. kicking the decision on the interview is probably a good decision. okay. let s get to the economy and the details on that. with regard to a report from the hill, here s how it reads in part. democrats are growing worried that the strong economy and president trump s messaging about his economic stewardship will help republicans in this year s midterm elections and have an even greater impact in 2020. what do you think, jill? should president trump and republicans breathe a sigh of relief this report is out there and they believe it s true? they re certainly not breathing a sigh of relief. they have history working against them. they also have a deeply unpopular president working against them and pretty much any republican you speak to is very concerned about what
giuliani has been saying that the president has been deep in preparation, and they just haven t had time, honestly, to prepare him for a potential mueller interview and to have those deep conversations about what their answer is going to be, whether they re going to agree to the interview or not. again, to how this is being perceived, erin, new polling shows that 13% of republicans view the investigation as legitimate. 75% of republicans agree with the president, they say it s a witch hunt. from a democratic perspective, those numbers are flipped. what does that tell you about how this investigation is going to play out in the midterms? on those poll numbers, what it shows is that the trump administration s tact is working and they re trying to delegitimize what president trump and others are saying about it. in terms of how it s going to play in the midterms, i don t think it s going to be wrapped up by the midterms. we are reaching the one-year anniversary on thursday, and we ve

the economy certainly, there are plenty of americans who are not feeling that uptick that we re seeing in the economy writ large. that s going to be a problem for republicans in a number of really important districts and in key states. here s the other thing. so many people right now are saying that the democrats can t win the senate because the economy is doing better. a lot of people think the democrats are going to pick up the house, but their chances in the house are no longer. i actually take issue with that because you look at some of the individual races, and i think there s a very good chance democrats pick up two seats out west, and they even have a chance to score an upset in tennessee. they could hold the line on some of their other seats that they re defending with incumbents who are relatively well liked in their states and actually flip the senate. so i agree with jill that it is too early to tell how this is going to play out, but you have to look at the factors in the i
program, the enhanced interrogation techniques, and the activities that took place in the early part of the last decade are something that s as far as i m concerned has been litigated. we as a nation dealt with this during the obama administration. the president acknowledged abuses in the past. the president went on to say, however, that we weren t going to punish people beyond those who the department of justice through the course of investigation might determine required some judicial process. at the end of the day, there were individuals who suffered consequences, but the vast majority of the people involved in the program, there was no criminal charges applied. so i feel we as a nation have litigated it, and it s really time to put that chapter behind us and move forward. i think gina is the right person to do that. okay. but larry, i m looking at page two of this letter in which you specifically address the situation and write, as
