one way to get pumped up before work. welcome to the morning rave. hello and welcome to our viewers in the u.s. and around the world. i m isha sesay. the philippines faces the threat of flash floods and landslides as it deals right now with typhoon hagupit. the dangerous and slow-moving storm is lashing the country. millions of people in the philippines have scrambling to get out of the typhoon s way, or they ve been settling down in hotels, on higher ground away from the coast. hagupit is expected to make landfall just a few hours from now. our own derek wendam is standing by with the details. derek, what are you saying? isha, we re expecting landfall within the next six hours to be exact. specifically along the northeastern sections of samar island. this is the latest satellite
let me just say we ve been talking to government officials who say that the fbi has been looking at the computer hard drives and the flight simulators that the malaysians gave to the fbi, asking them to do an analysis. and so far according to our sources, they haven t seen anything yet that would lead them to any conclusions about a nefarious action here. they don t have any concrete evidence coming out of those hard drives that would lead them to believe that they can pinpoint the captain. that said, most people do think the captain probably steered this plane on a southerly course. why? we don t know. let s talk about the weather today in that area. sure. it has been horrendous. we have a real live satellite loop coming from the weather channel. the weather is so bad that in fact they had to divert planes today that were headed down into that area, send them back to perth, australia. the reason, they ve got extremely high winds, high waves, icing conditions. it was simply too d

winds here that it s my belief that has taken that debris field and put it closer to australia. let s look at the wave heights. the wave heights today have been at around ten feet. a look at the forecast, advancing it not just through the weekend, but into the early part of next week, the wave heights are expected to go up to about 16 to 20 feet. of course that could really hinder and slow down the efforts in the indian ocean. here s a look at the wave heights there are areas shaded in orange. that s where they are expected to be the strongest. more importantly ifz an infrared/satellite loop for you. as they go forward, an even in the next couple hours, that debris field could start making its move toward the east and northeast. as they start looking at perhaps where it originated, they may, chris, be looking more towards
a few images missing from this satellite loop, like right now. you can see this is the tail end of this system. the grain is rain over the water. the white is a combination of ice and snow and it s been falling since about 4:00 this morning, and it s approaching 4:00 in the afternoon now, and it s still falling in new york city we had the new york city shot. it s not sticking very minute. but right when you get outside of the five in staten islanded and the branches it s a mess, and near new jersey and connecticut, forget about it, janice dean. it s coming down. yesterday morning i looked and they said one to three inches. they said. i said on saturday up to seven inches in and around the new york city area, and you can check the videotape. point taken as usual. here s what we have gotten out of this sneaky storm system that dumped over eight inches of snow in maryland, new york, bayside, seven inches. six in central park. still coming down.
