ABEOKUTA – Kano State Governor, Abdulahi Umar Ganduje, has called on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to take drastic steps in curbing foreign herders who are always armed with sophisticated weapons from making incursion into Nigeria.
The Kano State governor made the call on Tuesday, while speaking at the Stakeholders’ Parley on Farmers/Herders Conflict, organised by the Ogun State government, held at the Obas’ Complex, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
He also advocated what he described as “commercial herding” as panacea to the incessant clashes between herders and farmers in the country.
Ganduje reiterated his call on the federal government to ban open grazing and block grazing routes from the northern to the southern part of the country.

The Seriki Fulani of Igangan, Oyo State, Saliu Abdulkadri, has disclosed that he is on a short visit to the north while his family members have settled temporarily in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Abdulkadri and his men moved out of Igangan in the Ibarapa North-West Local Council Development Area of Oyo State on Friday after the expiration of the seven-day eviction notice given to killer herdsmen in the community by the Yoruba rights activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho.
Abdulkadri stated that he was received by his kinsmen in Ilorin.
Asked about efforts made to reconcile with the community, he said, “I have not been called for any meeting as we speak. If we are asked to return to Igangan where are we going to live? My house and vehicles had been completely razed.

The Federal Government, yesterday, received several knocks for the swift manner with which it responds to issues affecting Hausa/Fulani while a similar disposition is not shown towards worries and challenges faced by the majority of Nigerians. x
The critics are particularly disturbed by the government’s taciturnity and alleged partisan disposition since allegations of criminal activities, including the destruction of farmlands were levelled against herdsmen operating from forest reserves in Oyo and Ondo states emerged.
