Of those flights, 27 were from Delhi.
India banned international flights last month, but Canada is one of 13 nations exempted through an “air bridge” arrangement between the two governments.
In an email on Wednesday, Anne Génier, a spokesperson for the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), said the agency was “aware of the reports” regarding the double mutation “first described” in India, and that it was “closely monitoring the situation.”
“Canada has some of the strictest travel and border measures in the world,” she wrote. “These measures are proving effective in reducing the risk of importation and transmission of COVID-19 and new variants of the virus related to international travel.”
