The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has returned to power with a landslide victory in the Assembly elections. Amidst all the speculations and discussions, 52-year old, Senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken oath as the 15th Chief Minister of Assam, today at noon.
Sarma is known to be a dynamic minister and the most influential politician in the North-Eastern region.

BJP created history by winning Assam the second time in a row. This is the first time that a non-Congress party has bagged Assam twice consecutively and that too with 60 seats, just 4 short of the target of 64 in the 126-member Assam Assembly

Guwahati: The verdict was clear. It is another term for the BJP-led NDA in Assam. BJP won 60 of the total 126 seats and its allies AGP won 9 and UPPL won 6 seats.
With a total of 73, NDA (National Democratic Alliance made up of BJP and its allies) is once again in a very comfortable position to form the government in Assam for the second time in a row. This is the first time that a non-Congress party has romped back to power in Assam.
As India struggles with a vicious second wave of COVID-19 and a seemingly endemic shortage of oxygen, anti-incumbency seemed to have taken a back seat: Mamata Banerjee returned for a record third term in West Bengal; Pinarayi Vijayan got a never before second term in Kerala; M K Stalin finally got a chance in Tamil Nadu and the BJP renewed its mandate in Assam.
While Banerjee made boldfaced headlines for taking on an ascendant BJP, which gave the Bengal campaign its all, including 20 public meetings by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kerala for the first time in its history renewed the mandate of the incumbent.
