New Delhi [India], June 1 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed the plea of the National Medical Council (NMC) and granted it the extended time as mandated by it earlier beyond 12 weeks, to comply with the apex court s earlier order directing Saraswati Medical College to deposit an amount of Rs 5 crores to the Supreme Court s Registry for allegedly and intentionally violating the Medical Council regulations.
A two-judge vacation bench of the apex court, headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao and also comprising Justice Aniruddh Bose, granted time as mandated earlier in its order beyond 12 weeks.

The Supreme Court has directed 132 medical students in Uttar Pradesh to carry out community services for two years for securing admission in violation of rules.
The court said the order would not be treated as a precedent. The bench of Justices L. Nageswara Rao and S. Ravindra Bhat said it was passing the order in the peculiar circumstances of the case as cancelling the admissions of the students, who had already completed their second year of the five-year MBBS course, would not serve any useful purpose.

The top court noted that the Saraswati Medical College admitted 132 students without seeking a nod from Director General Medical Education (DGME), Uttar Pradesh.
