I have had a fantastic time with judy out in the battlefield. She is a wellestablished scholar. She has published a number of books and articles. The book that has probably gotten the most acclaim is entitled civil war, sisterhood, and womens politics in transition. And just recently, she has assumed the editorship of the journal of the civil war era. It is a fantastic journal out of penn state, also published by the university of North Carolina press, and certainly worth your attention. Our second panelist, just to the left, is sarah gardner. Sarah is professor of history and director of southern studies at Mercer University in georgia, where she teaches cultural and intellectual history of the 18th and 19th century american south. Allowed in. In the course of the questions and answers, i hope we get to explain why the figure of 100,000 refugees to be admitted over the next year and how that speaks to the global need. Secondly, to fund that drive properly, including in the department of Homeland Security where we strongly support Effective Security screening and can speak to that. Thirdly, and something that has not had proper coverage, is the scope for expanding access through family reunification schemes for Syrian American communities who are in this country across the country and have grandparents, cousins, relatives in syria who want to come and join them. This is a dnabased family reunification scheme that could offer a practical and shortterm way of circumventing delays that have plagued the program. I very much look forward to a real dialogue.
