SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) Prosecutors presented enough evidence to pursue murder charges in a criminal trial against a New Mexico woman accused of causing a car crash that killed a police officer and a retired firefighter, a judge said Thursday.
Officials are assessing the area of Bandelier National Monument in northern New Mexico where an Illinois woman was killed when struck by a falling rock while climbing a ladder to reach a canyon alcove.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM -Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that former Rio Arriba County Commissioner Barney Trujillo was found guilty after trial for violating New Mexico’s procurement code. A Santa Fe District Court Judge found that Trujillo failed to disclose in-kind campaign contributions he made to an Española Public School Board member’s campaign as required by a professional services agreement he subsequently entered into with that same board.
“Political corruption cases are among the most difficult to prosecute in New Mexico, and we will continue to partner with members of the public and others to protect our schools and taxpayer resources,” said Attorney General Balderas. “I am grateful to the Court for its careful consideration of this case.”

 The Santa Fe District Court bench trial for former Española School Board and former Rio Arriba County commissioner Barney Trujillo began Thursday (7/22). Trujillo faces charges for failure to properly disclose campaign contributions.
   During the trial before Judge Mary Marlow Sommer, the district attorneyâs office alleged that Trujillo failed to disclose campaign contributions to Yolanda Salazarâs 2014 campaign for Española School Board. The contribution was in the form of signs.
   Former Española school superintendent Eric Martinez was the first witness for the state. Martinez said he did not initially hire Trujillo but renewed his contract for 2016. The contract renewal required a disclosure of campaign contributions which Trujillo signed âNA.â
