NAACP Santa Cruz County annouced events planned later in January to celebrate the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a Youth Day event Jan. 13 at the Resource Center for Nonviolence and a march in downtown Santa Cruz on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
"He was especially good at getting coalitions put together on a campaign-by-campaign basis," said Santa Cruz Mayor Fred Keeley. "Everything he did was rooted in a value system, a belief system, and that really didn't change over 35 or 40 years."
U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee, who has represented the East Bay in Congress since 1998, stopped by Jalisco Restaurant for a meet and greet hosted by the Santa Cruz County Democratic Central Committee, which also arranged for visits by Porter and Schiff.
Election Day is in less than a week, and some candidates are making a last-ditch effort to get votes. For one running in Watsonville, however, that effort could result in both confusion and litigious action.
