We are also following breaking news out of Contra Costa County. A News Conference underway right now as were learning more about a man investigators say set fire to a bunch of cars in the east bay. James bishop iii was arrested over the weekend after this car was torched. One of a series of fires that happened the past couple of weeks throughout county. Investigators told me that they noticed an uptick in car arson fires at the beginning of april, but things really heated up last week with backtoback arson fires across the county. Well, tonight, just a few minutes ago, the task force began a press conference to announce that charges have now been filed against the alleged firestarter. T
Reporter Sergeant Paul kelly said it happened to one of his officers who was cents to internal affairs after a call from the d. A. Office. It turns out the camera was not working properly. Its a problem because it makes us officers look like there is a problem that were not turning on the cameras and thats not the fact. Reporter Sergeant Kelly highlighted 23 policies that the camera can be turned off like when theyre inside a hospital. And the chief says they want to make sure that the officers use it properlily. A. s office obtained by nbc bay area told the supervisor to let her when quote, an officer purposely failed to turn on the body cam, not to file charges against the officer, but the union says its to alert the chief of police.
