NEW DELHI: A new analysis of the winter pollution levels in Delhi-NCR says that while the seasonal average was higher than the previous winter s, the severity and duration of smog episodes were lower. Stations in north and east Delhi recorded the highest PM2.5 levels. The analysis, by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), has considered Central Pollution Control Board s real-time air quality data, stubble fire data from System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research, and weather data from the Palam station of India Meteorological Department. The number of days with severe and very poor levels of PM2.5 concentration has been comparatively lower this winter but the number of days in the poor category has increased, it says. While the overall city average at 186 micrograms per cubic metre has been 7% higher than the 2019-20 winter, the seasonal peak has been about 8% lower.
