Officials say transition smooth;
The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has recently transitioned its services from office visits to
online registrations, but dealers allege the process has not been as smooth and efficient as is being claimed by
RTO. Citizens who have recently purchased new vehicles are also complaining of unprecedented deferment of
deliveries.
Chief Minister
Uddhav Thackeray has recently launched an online vehicle registration system of vehicles for dealers across the state. This now allows dealers to complete all formalities and payments of taxes online. Henceforth, there is no need to physically take vehicles to RTO premises, the state transport authorities had said.

The Union government in December last year had brought in amendments to the central Motor
Vehicles Rules, 1989. Accordingly, it had directed vehicles that are older than 15 years be scrapped. The move aims at stimulating the adoption of eco-friendly vehicles and ensuring that pollution levels go down in the country, which is reeling from deteriorating air quality in several major cities. Subsequently,
regional transport authorities already started taking action against old private vehicles plying in the city. The city traffic police have also jumped into the bandwagon and started penalising vehicles that do not make the cut, including two-wheelers with missing mirrors and other safety gears, which authorities insist could lead to accidents.

The Lokmanya Hospital For Special Surgery at Pune’s Senapati Bapat Road, inaugurated a first responder and road safety training programme on Friday, with an aim to train one lakh first responders who would be instrumental in saving lives in emergencies.
