Officers of the Kano StatePolice Command have arrested a 23-year-old woman identified as Maryam Mohammed for kidnapping her ex-boyfriend who refused to marry her after years of courtship.
Maryam, popularly called Hajiya, was arrested by the police at Jaba quarters, Ungogo local government area of Kano state while negotiating a ransom with the family of one of their captives last Tuesday, January 12.
According to Maryam, she was introduced to kidnapping by her uncle, one Hamza Dogo of Butsa village, Gusau local government of Zamfara state after she had parted ways with her ex-boyfriend.
She said:
“I was introduced into kidnapping by my uncle called Hamza from Butsa village, Gusau local government of Zamfara state and the first person we kidnapped was my ex-boyfriend who refused to marry me despite my efforts to get him convinced during our years of courtship.

The Kano State police Command has apprehended a four man gang of notorious kidnappers who specialize in terrorizing citizens of the state and those in Zamfara State.
Besides arresting the notorious kidnappers, the police command also rescued a kidnap victim and recovered 1 AK-47 Rifle with 30 rounds of live ammunition. The kidnap victim’s vehicle and motor cycle which were stolen by the kidnappers were also recovered.
The police public relations officer, PPRO, DSP Abdullahi Haruna in a statement announcing the arrest of the kidnappers, said, “On Tuesday January 12th, 2021, at about 8pm, a complaint was lodged by one Sunusi Ado of Galadanchi Quarters, Gwale LGA of Kano State, that his 29 year old son, Mohammed Sanusi was kidnapped and a cash ransom of N10 million was demanded.

The Kano State Government on Wednesday pulled down an apartment in which the police arrested suspected kidnappers holding a victim there.

Officials of the Kano Urban Development Agency (KNUPDA) supervised and armed security agents watched as a bulldozer pulled down the building located at Jaba quarters in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano.
The exercise was also witnessed by a large crowd of residents, who cheered while the bulldozer flattened the structure.
Officials said the development would send a message to residents to be watchful over their communities and for homeowners to be careful in renting out their apartments.
