New electric charging point

OTLEY is set to get a second charging station amid increasing demand from drivers of electric cars. The town already has one charging point - at the Licks car park on Cattle Market Street. Local councillors have been approached by a number of residents asking about charging points - most of them people who have bought electric cars or are thinking about doing so. Now the town is set to get a second charging station in Beech Hill Car Park funded from a government grant and maintained by the company which installs it. Otley and Yeadon councillors Sandy Lay, Colin Campbell and Ryk Downes are welcoming the latest proposals to expand the network of electric car charging points in Otley.

Police clampdown on Chevin parking

POLICE are clamping down on dangerously parked vehicles on Otley Chevin after complaints from local people. A total of 18 tickets were given out last weekend by officers from the local neighbourhood policing team - and drivers are being warned that daily enforcement will continue. In a facebook post on Monday West Yorkshire Police North West said: “Over this past weekend, officers from your local NPT once again attended Otley Chevin at the request of concerned residents, in relation to dangerously parked vehicles. “As you can see from the below photographs, traffic is being forced into the oncoming lane by dangerous parking. On one of the photos below, this has resulted in the car having a damaged wing mirror.

Proposals to protect services in Otley and Yeadon

BUDGET amendments have been put forward by Liberal Democrats to protect and improve services in Otley and Yeadon and the wider Leeds area. The proposals, which were put forward at Wednesday s Leeds City Council meeting, would include the protection of Yeadon Sailing and Activity Centre and would keep Ellar Ghyll tip open seven days a week. They would also provide free parking in Otley. Otley and Yeadon councillor Sandy Lay said: Because of Covid 19 things are difficult for local government at the moment. However we believe our proposals, which are cost neutral, would benefit everyone. In particular we are looking at a number of schemes to benefit the environment with investment in public transport and extension to local recycling. Locally we have found funding to reverse the decision to close for most of the week Ellar Ghyll waste transfer station and keep it as a seven day service .

Work to start on Otley s flood alleviation scheme

WORK is to start next month on Otley s flood alleviation scheme. Construction was due to begin shortly after the proposals were approved in March last year but the scheme had been set back by lockdown. Leeds City Council said last year it was hoping to begin engineering work in October 2020 but then the start date was delayed again until 2021. Now councillors have been told construction will begin on Monday, March 8. The project, which is a major part of Otley s £3.3 million flood defence scheme, involves a flood defence embankment running parallel with Billams Hill and the management of vegetation on the islands downstream at Otley Weir. The measures will cut the risk of flooding to properties on Farnley Lane and Bridge Avenue.
