we begin with breaking news in silver spring. a middle school student is facing an assault charge after shooting a classmate with a toy gun. it happened at briggs cheney middle school on cheney drive. elaine joins us now. reporter: this happened at the beginning of the school day. at first, investigators weren t sure if they were bealing with a bb gun or something more serious. they did realize, however, this was a toy gun, still, they are taking this case seriously. we re told that a tune at the briggs cheney middle school in silver spring brought a toy gun to class. around 9:00 this morning, the student fired it at another classmate. a plastic pellet did hit the student. were are told they are okay. there was no lockdown. classes have resumed. they are back to normal. the police plan to charge that tune with the one count of assault. things pretty quiet here but i m sure a few hectic moments at the beginning of the school day. elaine reyes, news 4. we re watching anothe
