Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed grief over the death of veteran Bengali singer Gitashree Sandhya Mukhopadhyay and said that it has left our cultural world a lot poorer and her melodious renditions will continue to enthral the coming generations.
She had refused the Padma Shri award in January. Her daughter had said the award was ‘demeaning’ for someone with a career spanning over eight decades.
Legendary Bengali singer Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, who was recently in news for refusing the prestigious Padma Shri award which was given by the government of India. She died on Tuesday evening at the age of 90.
