Lets begin with our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri who is tracking our late night conditions. Jeff . Were seeing the next wave just as forecasted beginning to move in from the south. More of that coming up, but i want to look at these storm reports. We have one of about everything today. Flooding, flash flooding at that, trees down, winds that topped 60 miles per hour. One of the top reports coming in northwest of sacramento and woodland. Thats where we had that funnel cloud report. The storm spotter said the funnel was about 800 feet off the ground. Some folks are debating whether this touched the ground or not. But a funnel cloud. This was pretty well designed, not very destructive. There was not any damage reported with this. But certainly a very severe look here at some california weath
Pad as they were yesterday and the day before, now what were looking at is because the ground is so saturated, those flooding concerns really are heightened. Reporter the commute through this stretch of roadway here, i80 and i580 can usually be throw, but factor in the weather and it can quickly become a parking lot. The heavy rain and reduced visibility is being blamed for multiple accidents, including a fatal crash on 580. Drivers need to pay much better attention and officers were responding to about a dozen calls every 30 minutes this morning during the peak of the rain. The chp suspect the only agency thats been busy. Tow truck companies, and tire shops say theyre seeing double the business. Its a lot worse when its raining. We havent had a lot

The map behind me is a Drought Monitor map and you can see there is not one part of the state that is untouched from the drought from the north end all the way down to the south end, everyone is being gripped with these bone dry conditions across the state. In fact, many experts say well likely end up as one of the top ten driest rainfall seasons ever. The 2013 was the driest calendar year and now were on track for probably about the third driest rainfall season. So right now most places are 35 to 45 are normal. What i want to do now is go ahead and take a look closer into the bay area. What youll find is some parts of the bay are doing worse than others

Bennett shes tracking this very unusual weather for the bay area tonight jacqueline we will see more activity over the north bay as well. It is to the activity is starting up and especially over this sierra. Only over the sierra is the mountains was elevated pat duron. Obviously the ground level is a lot higher in the sierra. Satellite radar pictures again to the east and to the north and off shore. This afternoon it has shifted and tracking to the north over the next few hours into tomorrow. We will talk more about that in just a bit. Reporter the National Weather Service Reporting more than 15,000 light and strikes locally here in the bay area since yesterday afternoon. This image here cames from san jose. 90 percent of the strikes came off shore in the pacific. Heres one straddling the coast in the pacifica. Look at that. Looks like it goes right between to transmission towers. Lining up the sky. Quite impressive we have a cool shot here in San Francisco uc the brightness and get al
