The Central government on Wednesday informed the Supreme Court that Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan have opposed the legal recognition of same-sex marriages in the country.
Representing the Centre in the same-sex marriage hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said in the Supreme Court that Rajasthan, Andra Pradesh and Assam have opposed the legalisation of homosexual marriages.
The Centre had sought the views of all states and Union territories after the Supreme Court took up petitions seeking legalisation of same-sex marriages.
During the last hearing, the Court observed that it cannot go by what young people think a constitutional court should do while considering recognition of same-sex marriage in India.
