EUGENE Hanna Delgado came through with the biggest hit of her young career and it proved to be the difference in Oregon’s home-opening win.
The freshman left fielder hit a two-out, two-run single to left to give the No. 6 Ducks a four-run lead and they held on for a 4-2 win over Portland State Saturday afternoon at Jane Sanders Stadium.
“I thought she did a great job,” Oregon coach Melyssa Lombardi said. “It was exciting to see her do that. I thought she had a good day.”
Brooke Yanez strikes out 10 as No. 8 Oregon softball beats No. 1 UCLA, Utah
Updated Feb 28, 2021;
In its first of 18 games against ranked teams this season, No. 8 Oregon defeated No. 1 UCLA and then finished the day with a win over Utah.
Brooke Yanez struck out 10 and worked around a late jam to lead the Ducks in a 3-1 win over the Bruins Sunday afternoon in Tempe, Arizona.
Alyssa Brito and Shaye Bowden hit solo home runs and Rachel Cid had an RBI single for Oregon (8-0), which led 3-0 through six.
Yanez held UCLA to just two hits through six, but the Bruins broke through with a string of four one-out hits in the seventh. Maya Brady doubled and Anna Vines drove her in to put UCLA on the board. Alyssa Garcia followed with a single and Kinsley Washington was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Yanez got back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat and the game.

PERFECT START
Oregon rolled to a perfect 7-0 start to the season behind dominant pitching and a balanced offense. After securing four run-rule wins on opening weekend, the Ducks swept a two-game series at Fresno State with 10-2 and 2-1 wins this past Saturday and Sunday. Oregon is outscoring its opponents by an average of 7.29-1.00 runs per game, while winning five of the seven games by at least eight runs. The Ducks have won 13 straight games dating back to last season, which is tied for the sixth-longest active streak nationally.
