TUCSON – In a single moment, silence turned to fireworks. After a five-inning drought, sophomore utility Savannah Pola hit a single to bring home redshirt junior utility Maya Brady – moments after a pyrotechnics display at a University of Arizona commencement ceremony just beyond the stadium.
The stakes of high-level games do not affect Megan Faraimo. Or at least that’s what the redshirt senior pitcher says. “I do better when the pressure is on,” Faraimo said.
In a tie ballgame in the top of the seventh inning, Sharlize Palacios stepped up to the plate with two runners on base. The redshirt junior catcher, who transferred from Arizona prior to the season, had a chance to put the Bruins ahead against her former team.
The third time up to bat was the charm for the Bruins on Tuesday night. After two scoreless innings by both teams, No. 3 UCLA softball (33-4, 9-3 Pac-12) defeated UC San Diego (14-20, 4-5 Big West) at the Triton Softball Field by a nine-run margin, concluding after only six innings with a score of 10-1.
