The 4×100-meter relay team took first place as App State women’s track & field competed at the Charlotte Invitational.
Jelonnie Smith, Samara Gibson, Taylor Smith and LaBria King teamed up in the 4×100-meter relay to cross the finish line first in 46.23 seconds. It marks the third time this season the Mountaineers have seen a 4×100-meter relay tandem take first-place.
The long jump saw Taylor Smith finish second with a leap of 18-4.50 (5.60m) and Nevaeh Haddock placed fourth with a distance of 17-8.75 (5.40m).

App State women’s outdoor track & field won five events at the season opening Wendy’s Seahawk Teal Invitational on Saturday.
The 4×100-meter relay tandem of Taylor Smith, Jessica Dixon, Maya Hanks and LaBria King won the event in 46.73 seconds. The team of Jelonnie Smith, Samara Gibson, Ani Judd and Nevaeh Haddock finished right behind in second with a time of 47.27 seconds.
Dixon won the 400-meter dash in 56.37 seconds, with Jelonnie Smith right behind in second place with a time of 57.03 seconds. Dixon added another victory in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.94 seconds, with Taylor Smith finishing second in 25.27 seconds.
Peighton Simmons captured the triple jump title to lead App State women’s track & field on the final day of the Sun Belt Championships on Tuesday.
The Mountaineers finished ninth of 12 teams with 29 points. Arkansas State repeated as team champions with 145 points, Texas State was second with 94.5 points and Troy finished third with 90 points.
Simmons title marks App State’s 16th triple jump conference championship in program history and first since 2010, when Danielle Thorpe captured the crown.
After fouling on her first two attempts, Simmons posted a leap of 41-5.00 (12.62m) on her final jump to move into first place and advance to the finals. On her last attempt in the finals, Simmons expanded her distance to 41-7.00 (12.67m) to capture the title. The mark represents a new season best and is the first conference championship of her career.
