App State track & field saw two individuals earn All-Academic Athlete honors and both men’s and women’s programs earn All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday.
Both Maya Hanks and Peighton Simmons were honored individually for their work in the classroom. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a 3.25 in the most recent grading period. In addition, the student-athlete must have finished the season ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event, or in the top 48 in any championship relay event, for the most recent indoor season or must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships (the Preliminary Championship Competition and/or the Fi

Three Mountaineers Qualify for Track and Field NCAA Preliminaries

Three members of the App State track & field program have qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla. from May 26 to May 29.
Maya Hanks and Peighton Simmons will represent the Mountaineers on the women’s side in the triple jump. Eric Haddock Jr. will compete for App State on the men’s side in the triple jump. All three athletes will make their first appearances at the NCAA East Preliminary Round.
Haddock Jr. will compete on May 28 at 3:15 p.m., while Hanks and Simmons will compete on May 29 at 3:15 p.m.

It marks the first Field Athlete of the Week honor for Hanks.
At the USC Open on Saturday, Hanks posted a PR in the triple jump, covering 41-7.00 (12.67m) on her third jump of the day to finish second. Her mark was the best triple jump distance in the Sun Belt this season.
In addition, her mark also ranks 26th in the NCAA East Region. The top 32 individuals advancing the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla. from May 27 to May 29.
Hanks has competed in the triple jump in four meets this season and finished in the top three each time, including a first place finish at the Weems Baskin Relays on March 27.
