Lea Fields Crematorium opened its doors to visitors giving people an opportunity to take an informal look around the facilities and to see how they are helping the environment.
Former councillor Rita died aged 88 following a short illness on January 12. Rita represented Westhoughton South from 1990 to 1994, before becoming Mayoress to her partner, Hon. Alderman Peter Finch, in 1998/99. She was a governor at Eatock Primary in Westhoughton and it was at her suggestion the school was named Eatock. Rita s funeral will be held on January 29 and those who wish to follow the procession are welcome to do so. Her granddaughter, Samantha Fairhurst said Rita will be sadly missed by all her family and many great friends. The cortege will the leave the Welland at 12.30pm on January 29. Friends are welcome to walk with us up to St Bartholomew s for the service at 1pm and then onto Overdale Crematorium at 2pm.

Former councillor Rita Fairhurst died aged 88 following a short illness, with ex-colleagues and friends remembering the work she did for the town.
