Sanwo-Olu launches $20m Lagos Cares programme for youths, women

•Project Funded Through World Bank Facility Lagos State Government has rolled out a $20 million Coronavirus (COVID-19) Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (Lagos CARES) Programme to support livelihood for poor and vulnerable households and to expand food security services in the State. At the State House, Alausa, on Wednesday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu launched the social intervention project that is focused on offering safety net to residents whose means of livelihood had been disrupted by the impacts of COVID-19 and also to building resilience of the State. The programme, which will be implemented for 24 months, is being funded through $750 million facility secured from the World Bank by the Federal Government for Nigeria-CARES project. Other states also benefited from the stimulus programme.

The governor made this known while speaking at the inauguration of the Steering Committees of the Lagos Cares Programme chaired by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Sam Egube. The programme is an offshoot of the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (N-CARES) Programme for Results (P4R), supported by the World Bank.

Lagos Govt Asks Contractors To Improve On Project Delivery

  The Lagos State Government on Tuesday charged contractors, project-executing Ministries, Departments and Agencies to adhere to accepted best practices in the delivery of key programmes and projects aimed at improving the social-economic conditions of people in the State. Delivering a Keynote address during a One-Day Monitoring and Evaluation Stakeholders’ forum by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, the Commissioner, Mr. Sam Egube said the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration is resolute in building a ‘Greater Lagos’, which is evident in the Y2021 Budget, especially with the allocation of a greater amount on roads and other infrastructure with a budgetary provision of N167.801bn for the benefits of all Lagosians.

Speaking during the unveiling at Lagos House, Ikeja, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the Lagos CARES initiative was part of the Nigeria CARES (N-CARES) Programme for Results (P4R). x Sanwo-Olu said the N-CARES programme, facilitated by the World Bank was an integral part of the national approach adopted to alleviate the burden of the COVID-19 pandemic and enhance the wellbeing of residents. He said the Lagos CARES programme to be implemented between 2021 and 2023 would provide economic relief and recovery support to identified vulnerable persons.
