After 109 years, the Salvation Army is closing its West Pittston branch and merging with its Wilkes-Barre chapter.
The organizationâs building on Luzerne Avenue was demolished in March and the charity has been operating out of a temporary rented location in Pittston City.
âWe no longer have a building,â said Major Edgar George Jr., the Salvation Armyâs general secretary based in Philadelphia. âFrom a financial standpoint, it makes sense to consolidate.â
George promised the residents previously served by the Salvation Army could expect the same level of services since the combined headquarters in Wilkes-Barre is only several miles away.
