Transport secretary Grant Shapps announced the reappointment, with the latest two-year term due to start on 16 July. Hendy has served on the board of Network Rail since 2015. He’s also served as chair of the London Legacy Development Corporation since July 2017.

But how can an effective flood management strategy help the industry achieve this goal?  In 2019, the UK Government committed to bringing all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero within the next three decades.  As well as reducing or eliminating emissions completely, they can be balanced by schemes to offset the equivalent amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere, such as planting trees or using technology like carbon capture and storage.  But differing definitions of net zero and inconsistencies in the approach to carbon reduction and offsetting, present a real challenge for the maintenance of existing and the delivery of new infrastructure.
